The activities of the Device Physics competence center are based on the physical characterization and modeling of individual components and architectures, as well as the forward integration of systems into print and backward integration into materials. The focus of the manufacturing methods being sought is printing technology. Components relevant to organic electronics include organic light emitting diodes, organic solar cells and organic circuits and chips.
Organic light emitting diodes are mainly applied in display and lighting technology. The key parameters in these two fields are brightness, color reproduction, energy efficiency, homogeneity and lifespan. Various measuring stations are set up for the electro-optical and spectral characterization of OLEDs. Strategies for the optimization of parameters can be developed by modeling the measurement parameters. For example, the emission spectrum can control itself best through changes to the chemical structure of the materials, while the homogeneity of light emissions are highly affected by the influence of process parameters during the manufacturing process.
