Organic Electronics a green technology

Organic electronics is a future-oriented green  technology involving environmentally-friendly energy generation, economical energy use and the manufacture of electronic components in a way which protects resources, using conducting and semi-conducting plastics.

Applications of Organic Electronics

The possibilities for the application of organic electronics are as varied as they are fascinating, and will change our everyday lives forever:

  • Organic solar cell films, which can be applied invisibly to windows in buildings and vehicles and have a "harvesting factor" three times higher than that of normal solar cells.

  • Organic light diodes, which need 50% less energy than today's energy-saving lamps and allow entirely new lighting systems such as lighting wall coverings and lighting panels.

  • Organic sensors, which are produced without harmful heavy metals, are ultra-thin and flexible, and can be used, for example, in medical technology for measuring organ function through the skin.

Printing as an innovative production method

Organic electronic also has a high potential for innovation with regard to the desired production process, printing technology. This production method is simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly, thus allowing electronic components to be mass produced in a way which is both ecologically and economically viable. When components are printed using organic materials, an ink made from certain soluble polymers is used, which can then be processed in large quantities using common printing processes such as screen printing or inkjet. The organic polymers, which can be used an almost unlimited number of times, can be printed on a large scale on a wide range of flexible substrates at relatively low temperatures and then integrated into a wide range of products.
