New dimension of production capacities for printed and organic sensors

Worldwide unique constellation: For the first time, printed organic sensors will be produced in an industrial three-shift operation at low costs - high quality printed sensors developed in Heidelberg.

As shareholder Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG accompanied InnovationLab from the very beginning. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG substantially forwarded the development from small series towards roll-to-roll production of printed sensors by providing the printing press Gallus RCS 330 along with its cooperation partner Gallus Ferdinand Rüesch.

According to experts, the economic potential of printed sensors is huge. For 2025, they forecast sales of 7,2 billion Euros (IDTEchEx, Flexible, Printed and Organic Electronics 2020-2030: Forecasts, Players & Opportunities, p. 17). Sensors are a basic element of digitization and needed everywhere and always.

In order to fulfill any kind of order volume from customers worldwide, iL and its shareholder Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG are now advancing the industrial production of printed and organic sensors with a second production site.

With this worldwide unique partnership between a fundamental R&D expert for Printed Sensors and the longtime global leader for printing machines- from lab to fab - InnovationLab and Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG are realizing a new dimension of production capacities for printed and organic electronics.

InnovationLab’s additive manufacturing process for Printed and Organic Sensors allows a cost-effective and resource-saving mass production of large-area sensors for applications in mobility, smart living, automotive, smart health care, retail, logistics and many more

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG is currently about to finish its first printing line in a clean room at its site in Wiesloch / Baden-Württemberg. The start of industrial production of its large-scale and flexible products is scheduled for Summer 2020.
